Post Camino

Fisterra

We woke to steady rain. And it rained and it rained. Our first really heavy rain since leaving home. Morning was spent inside reading e-books. So beautifully relaxing. We braved the weather at midday to go out for lunch dressed in our pilgrim wet weather gear complete with rainpants - at least here in Fisterra we were in fashion. After lunch at a cafe we decided to walk along the waterfront but extreme wind together with the rain drove us back inside but before long the sky brightened and the rain stopped so out we went again to explore. The sea was lovely and stormy and wild. Fantastic. Then the wind eased and the sun came out.
We went to the local fishing museum and learnt the history of catching octopus, the types of pots, and how nets were made for catching sardines. The curator was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable - she made it all come alive.

Braving the weather to find some lunch:

Later the rain had stopped but the clouds were still heavy:

A display in the museum - women mended the sardine nets.
Samples of old lobster, crab and octopus pots.

...then the skies cleared:

  1. Fisterra looks such an interesting place to explore. Lucky you didn't get that weather on the Camino

    1. We were truly blessed with the weather on our Camino. We had some rain on our first day but only a couple of quick showers after that.

  2. We had the first of our rain here too but mostly overnight. River so high that one of the local jetties is not visible.
