Fisterra to Cape Finisterre - 6 kms return
Today we walked from the village of Fisterra to the lighthouse at Cape Finisterre - to the end of the world.
This walk was the only time we had to retrace our steps. It was also the only time we walked south. Before, on the Camino Francés, we walked westwards every day, never having to turn and retrace our steps.
On the walk out to the lighthouse
A medieval pilgrim battling the elements on his way to the lighthouse. We were fortunate as after yesterday's wild weather today was calm and sunny day.
Looking towards the lighthouse - a hotel sitting in front.
At the 0 kms marker - it didn't really apply to us as we didn't walk from Santiago de Compostela.
A bronze boot. It's frowned upon now but some pilgrims used to burn their boots and the clothes that they had lived in during their Camino ...and some still do.
Looking back to the lighthouse and the hotel in front of it as we start our walk back to Fisterra
Nearly back in Fisterra
The 12th century church of Santa Maria das Arcas in Fisterra.
A few snaps taken on an afternoon ramble around Fisterra:
Looks like you had perfect weather
ReplyDeleteYes we certainly did.
DeleteA lovely place to explore, love the fishing boats quite colourful.
ReplyDeleteIt's a great place to relax that's for sure. I like the fishing boats too as they're all wooden ones.
DeleteLooks lovely. The fishing boats amazing. Weather improving for you. Great pics.xxxx
ReplyDeleteSome of the fishing boats have unusual shapes - we saw some in dry dock being sanded etc and they look quit puddingbowl-ish.
DeleteLove the end of the world. Precious snapshots of you both there.
ReplyDeleteYes the end of the world when it was thought to have been flat...
DeleteJust fabulous.!! So picturesque.
