Porto
Today we decided to go back to Porto's most famous bookshop Livaria Lello - considered to be one of the most beautiful bookshops in the world - and this time get tickets to go inside. When we walked past the store on Sunday we saw that the queue snaked well down the street so knowing that we went before opening time this morning and bought €5 tickets to enter and waited in a short line for the store to open - the €5 is deducted from the price of any book/s bought.
Waiting in line to enter.
The amazing central staircase
The underside of the staircase.
The beautiful stained glass skylight.
A special area for Harry Potter books as J K Rowling once lived in Porto and it is said that this bookshop was her inspiration for the bookshop where Harry bought his books before going to Hogwarts School.
Look girls - Pappy is looking at a book about tree houses. Maybe he doesn't want to live in any of the Pappy houses that we've found for him 😀
A few things that caught my eye today:
Pessoa - a Portuguese poet, writer, philosopher...
Shakespeare
We found a small food market in our wanderings. Sardines were the big seller.
We saw storks in so many cities, towns and villages in Spain. Porto seems to be a city of cranes 😉
We couldn't resist sampling treats in this store: Manteigaria - Fábrica de Pastéis de Nata. Makers of the very popular Portuguese cream cakes.
Chapel of Souls, Rua de Santa Catarina.
A beautiful bookshop! 😍😍😍😍
ReplyDeleteWhat did you buy?
Yes the bookshop was amazing. There was only a small English section ...I bought a small copy of The Little Prince 😊

ReplyDeleteIt certainly was.
DeleteHarriet: To bad Pappy you will need to live in a pappy house Ha Ha. Those cats and Rabbits looked very funny Nana and that joke about the cranes was very puny.
ReplyDeleteHi Harriet - I think Pappy will have to live in a Pappy house too 🤣 ...but I think my joke about the cranes was very clever 😎😎😎
