Day 52

Brea to Lavacolla - 17 kms
1 June 2019

Before light we were walking up a farm lane, the only ones out and about. We stopped and looked around and listened to the birds - trying to absorb it all - knowing that it would be our last small country lane of our Camino. The rest of the walk took us through woods, shady and cool.
There were lots of pilgrims at cafe stops but apart from three or four groups of secondary school students, which we quickly passed, we had a quiet walk. The mood of the pilgrims at the cafes was amazing. Everyone was excited and filled with anticipation, chatting and laughing - most of them were walking on to Santiago today.
It's hard to think that this is our last stop on our walk. Life on the Camino has been so simple. Each day consisted of walking, eating and sleeping. Each day carrying all we have needed on our backs like snails.
Lavacolla, where we're staying tonight, was the place where medieval pilgrims came to wash themselves (lavar) before entering Santiago. Well, we have showered and washed our clothes and are ready for tomorrow's walk into Santiago de Compostela - Saint James of the Field of Stars.

Leaving Brea - the world was quiet.

Pappy's house has seen better days. Once again he has lots of work to do to stop it from being draughty but he does have a good corrugated iron roof.

So many boots have been dumped along the path. Our boots are lasting but look a bit worse for wear.

12 K Guest House at San Paio - everything is counting down our kilometres.

The morning was already hot when we walked past this lady hoeing. Such a huge garden and such backbreaking work.
