Day 27
Sahagún to El Burgo Ranero - 18.5 kms
7 May 2019
Everything about today's walk was straightforward - the path was straight and we kept moving forward. It wasn't unpleasant though, we enjoyed our day. It didn't get too hot thanks to a cooling breeze that strengthened towards the end. We had a few stops along the way to have some drinks and nibbles and to air our feet.
We had companions: little creatures darted in and out of the paths edge. They were bigger/chubbier than mice and chestnut brown in colour. At first we thought they didn't have tails but later saw that they did. What are they?
Update: they are gerbils.
We had dinner, a pilgrim meal, in a bar up the road from our albergue in El Burgo Ranero, La Laguna, and as we made our way back the sky darkened and the wind carried spits of rain.

Leaving Sahagún |
A few kilometres out of Sahagún we stopped to air our feet and change our socks. Not a pretty place but we were happy to have a break. Phil joined us for a while. |
A memorial to a pilgrim who died while on the Camino - we have seen several memorials to pilgrims. Sadly we heard of a 61 years woman who died just the other day from a heart problem. |
Walking into Bercianos del Real Camino - the only village we passed through today - where we stopped at a cafe. |
A clock in the cafe with 352 kilometres to Santiago to Compostela on it. |
Walking out of the village |
A wee patch of grapes - unusual in this area of crops |
Coming into El Burgo Ranero |
Pappy's house needs quite a bit of work and it's very close to the pylons - but he shouldn't have a problem getting power. |
In El Burgo Ranero |
Albergue La Laguna - our home for tonight |
The pharmacy El Burgo Ranero |
Wind and rain darkened the sky earlier this evening |
Another good day for you. I hope the weather holds. The storks seem very busy. Must be fascinating to watch.
