Muruzábal to Cirauqui via Eunate - 18 kms
17 April 2019
Our genial albergue host in Muruzábal cooked us a beautiful meal last night - the star of which was white asparagus. He told us that he had cut it especially for our meal, he served them in a light broth with other vegetables plus as a side dish, they were cooked until tender and had a tasty local olive oil drizzled over them. It was a real treat to say the least.
Today we went on the alternative route to Eunate to see the ancient octagonal church of Santa Maria de Eunate. It is thought to date back to the Knights Templer. The rest of our walk today took us through Óbanos, Puente la Reina - with it's 12th century 'Queen's Bridge' - and Mañeru. We walked past paddocks of crops; olive, fig, almond and apple trees; and small vineyards.
Cirauqui, where we're staying tonight, is a fascinating medieval village built on a hill with all the buildings huddled together. Holy Thursday Mass in San Román Church in front of our albergue followed by a communal dinner completed our day.

Here's Pappy's house girls - it's between Muruzábal and Eunate so quite isolated but Pappy will have so many projects getting his home set up that he won't notice. |

ReplyDeleteYes it was. We're loving every moment even when its tough 😊
DeleteThank you Marilyn, I love to read about your day and see what you see. Such a nice time of year to be on a Camino with the first signs of spring all around you. I love all the old buildings and villages.
ReplyDeleteWe're loving every minute of it, and spring is such a beautiful time to be here.
DeleteHexagonal churches and white asparagus are special 💕
ReplyDeleteLoving being on this trip with you. Your pics are amazing. White asparagus looks incredible.
ReplyDeleteThanks J&J, the white asparagus is a real treat
DeleteThat was from J&J
ReplyDeleteYou might be trudging like pilgrims but all that beautiful fresh local produce must be so rewarding. Hope Pappy is not too daunted by all the renovations ahead. Will need to find a donkey for transport.
ReplyDeleteWe're loving the food along the way.
DeleteYes Pappy will be very busy knocking all his houses into shape. Finding Pappy houses became a way of passing time when the girls travel with us in the car. They love it and Jeff delights them when he responds in shock and horror. The houses they find him always have redeeming features such as 'it doesn't have walls Pappy but you'll have plenty of fresh air' or 'it has no roof but you'll be able to see the stars at night' 😁
