Day 6
Pamplona - rest day
16 April 2019
While we were out and about last night we had several sudden thunder claps followed immediately by a torrential downpour which had us scuttling back to our hostel - this morning couldn't have been more different, we woke to a glorious day which has been perfect for exploring the city.
My first impression yesterday was that Pamplona felt quite foreign, the least European city I had visited and I wasn't sure I could get to like it but during our exploration today I have come to appreciate the city and will leave it with fonder thoughts.

Plaza del Castillo early this morning |
|
Part of the monument of the Bull Run |
|
We found a wee cafe for breakfast... |
|
...it's yellow doors caught our eyes. |
|
Later we explored part of the old city walls and citadel which date back to the 16th century. |
|
Girls this is Pappy's house for today. It doesn't have a door and he would have to stand all the time but at least he would have a good view out over the city. |
|
We also visited the Cathedral of Santa Maria |
|
The Taconera Gardens |
|
A few random snaps taken in and around the city: |
The city walls look awesome. It looks like a Spanish city from my memory, but the trees and grass etc are green, not brown!
ReplyDeleteI guess it's green because it's still spring plus very likely the north gets more rain.
DeleteSuch a lot to see!! 'storybook like.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great place to have a rest day.
I couldn't get over the narrow streets and upmarket shops poked in amongst scruffy and even derelict ones. Amazing.
DeleteLove how a 'rest' day still involves a lot of walking. Would be a shame not to explore tho.
ReplyDeleteYes! An app that Tina has said we had walked 12 kms 😁
